Comets drop five set conference match to Saints Tuesday

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State Volleyball team dropped a five-set conference match to Presentation College on Tuesday night.

How It Happened:
The Comets were trailing by one point in the first set before a 7-1 run to jump out to a 19-14 lead. Presentation College would fight back and force the Comets to four set points and make it to a 24-23 lead. After a timeout from MSU, Pyburn would close the first set 25-23.
Presentation College went on a large run in the second set, but MSU would gain some momentum heading into the third set scoring four straight points before set point and PC would tie the match at 1.
Mayville State would use that momentum at the end of the second set, as the Comets jumped out to a 10-4 advantage. Mayville State would score the final eight points as MSU would take a 25-8 victory in the third set.
The Comets were trailing by 8 in the later stages of the fourth set before a 4-0 run would close the gap to five at 16-21. After forcing a Saint timeout, PC would score the next four points and force a fifth set 25-16. The Saints jumped out to a 7-2 run and would not look back as they took the final set 15-8.
Mayville State finished the match with 52 kills, and 183 total attempts for a .131 hitting percentage. They also finished with 84 digs, 49 assists, eight blocks, and four service aces.
