Comet Volleyball opens the 2022 season Thursday and Friday

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State Volleyball team opens the 2022 season on Thursday and Friday at the Chick-fil-a Classic hosted by Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida. The Comets will play Thursday at 9:00 AM CST and 11:00 AM CST with Friday starting at 7:00 AM CST and 9:00 AM CST.

If you would like to watch the Comets this week in Florida, there is a $10 per day charge to watch on the Sun Digital Network. If you are going to be in attendance, you can purchase tickets here, they are charging $20 per day.

Quick Hits on the Comets:
The Comets start the 2022 season after posting a 15-15 overall record and finishing 5-9 in conference play last season.
Last season, the Comets averaged a .171 hitting percentage, 11.7 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set, 73 aces, and 0.7 aces per set.
Defensively, MSU allowed 14.5 kills per set, a .200 hitting percentage, 13.8 assists per set, and 1.2 aces per set.
Elora Passa is leading the Comet offensive after posting a .198 hitting percentage last year with 303 kills, and 556 total assists.
Ashley Pyburn is the second highest returning in the kills category with 223 kills, a .237 hitting percentage, and finished the season with 76.0 total blocks.
Natalie Hadrava returns for her senior season with a team-high 614 digs last season, 5.74 digs per set, and a .962 serve reception percentage.
Rachel Hill and Samantha Passa were the top two in service aces last season with 21 and 13 aces respectively.

Matching up with the Trolls:
Trinity Christian enters the 2022 season after a 9-21 record last season and finished 5-13 in the CCAC. Trinity Christian is located in Palos Heights, Illinois, and competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Comets and Trolls have split the previous two meetings going back to the 2019 and 2020 seasons. During the pandemic season in 2020, MSU traveled to Trinity Christian and would defeat the Trolls in five sets.

Matching up with the Seahawks:
Keiser University finished the 2021 season with a 17-22 overall record and a 7-7 conference record in the Sun conference. Keiser University is located in West Palm Beach, Florida, and is hosting the Chick-fil-a Classic.
This is the first time that the Comets and Seahawks will meet in a volleyball match. The Seahawks made the national tournament in the 2020 season.

Matching up with the Golden Bears:
The Golden Bears enter the 2022 season after finishing 15-18 in 2021 with an 11-7 in the RSC conference. West Virginia Tech is located in Beckley, West Virginia, and competes in the River States Conference.
The Golden Bears and Comets will meet for the first time on Friday in the sport of Volleyball.

Matching up with the #20 Cougars:
The Cougars enter the 2022 season after posting a 30-9 overall record and 8-1 in AMC play. Columbia College is located in Columbia, Missouri, and competes in the American Midwest Conference.
This will be the first meeting between the Comets and Cougars in the sport of volleyball. The Cougars made the National Tournament last season and won the National Championship in 2015.
