Comet Volleyball splits day one of the Chick-fil-a Classic

West Palm Beach, Fla. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team swept the first game of the day against Trinity Christian but would drop game two to Keiser University in four sets.
 
Game One:

How It Happened:
The Mayville State Offense was on target in the first match of the day as they hit over .300 in each set as they cruised to an opening match victory.
In the first set of the match, MSU was only holding on to a 3-point lead when MSU would go on an 11-1 run and would take the first set 25-12.
A very similar situation in the second set for the Comets when they had a small margin in the middle of the set when the Comets would go on an 8-4 run and close out the second set by a score of 25-17.
The Comets would continue their onslaught in the third set and sweep the Trolls. In the match, MSU would tally 39 kills, six aces, five blocks, and 51 digs.

How It Happened:
A back-and-forth game for most of the match as neither team really took full control of the game. The Seahawks had a four-point advantage during the middle stages of the set before MSU would go on a 5-0 run and would take a one-point lead. MSU would take a two-point lead at 23-21 but Keiser would tie it at 23 and would take the first set 27-25.
Multiple runs throughout the second set would have us tied at 21 late in the second set. Two kills by Elora Passa and a service ace by Condon would give the Comets a second set victory and tie the match at one.
The Comets were trailing for most of the pivotal third set but MSU, down four, would go on a 5-0 run to create a set point for the Comets. Keiser would tie the match up at 25 and then score three out of the next four points to steal the third set by a final of 26-28.
In the fourth set, the Comets would trail by four in the middle stages of the set and would close the gap to one at 19-20 but Keiser would finish the set strong and would take the fourth set and the match to give MSU loss number one of the season.
For the match, MSU would have 45 kills and 25 attack errors for a .120 hitting percentage, with four aces, 20 blocks, and 81 digs.
