Comet Volleyball travels to North Sioux City for Labor Day Tournament

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State Volleyball team travels to North Sioux City for the Labor Day Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Comets are scheduled to play four games in two days with game times on Friday at 11:00 am against Tabor and 3:00 pm against Morningside. On Saturday, the Comets will play Briar Cliff at 9:00 am and #18 College of Saint Mary at 1:00 pm.

Quick Hits on the Comets:
The Comets enter the weekend with a 3-2 overall record dropping their home opener on Saturday against #15 Dakota Wesleyan.
The Comets on the season are currently averaging a .174 attack percentage, 13.5 kills per set, 12.7 assists per set, 22 service aces, and 1.2 service aces per set.
Defensively, MSU is allowing a .160 hitting percentage, 15.3 kills per set, 14.7 assists per set, 8 service aces allowed, 396 digs, and 22.0 digs per set.

Matching up with the Blue Jays:
The Tabor Blue Jays enter the weekend tournament with a 1-9 overall record winning in straight sets on Tuesday against Baker University.
The Blue Jays are averaging 10.9 kills per set, have 425 kills on the season, a .145 hitting percentage, 10.3 assists per set, 58 service aces, and 1.4 service aces per set.
Defensively, Tabor is allowing a .221 hitting percentage, 12.2 kills per set, 11.6 assists per set, 82 service aces, and 65 total blocks.
Tabor and Mayville State have not matched up on the Volleyball floor before this weekend.
 
Matching up with the Mustangs:
The Morningside Mustangs enter the weekend tournament with a 1-6 overall record with the only victory against RV Loyola.
The Mustangs are averaging 12.2 kills per set, 305 kills, 11.56 assists per set, 38 service aces, 1.5 service aces per set, and a .174 hitting percentage.
Defensively, MU is allowing 12.2 kills per set, a .227 hitting percentage, 11.5 assists per set, 47 service aces, 16.08 digs per set, and 1.5 blocks per set.
The Mustangs and Comets met up in 2021 at the Labor Day Tournament in Omaha, Nebraska and the Comets would defeat them in five sets.
 
Matching up with the Chargers:
The Briar Cliff Chargers enter the weekend tournament with a 1-2 overall record at the Charger Invite last weekend.
The Chargers are averaging 13.0 kills per set, .216 team attack percentage, 11.6 assists per set, 13 service aces, and 1.1 service aces per set.
Defensively, BCU is allowing 12.3 kills per set, a .168 hitting percentage, 10.8 assists per set, 8 service aces, and 6 total blocks on the season.
The Comets and Chargers have met four times over the past four seasons and the Comets are 3-1 in those previous matches with the only loss last season in five sets.
 
Matching up with the Flames:
The Saint Mary Flames enter the tournament with a 6-0 overall record and are currently ranked #18 in the latest NAIA National Poll.
The Flames are currently averaging a .253 hitting percentage, 13.86 kills per set, 13.0 assists per set, 37 total service aces, and 1.8 service aces per set.
Defensively, CSM is allowing 10.2 kills per set, a .126 hitting percentage, and 9.6 assists per set. The Flames are averaging 1.5 blocks per set, 17.7 digs per set, and have 33 total blocks.
This will be the first time that the Flames and Comets have met on the Volleyball floor.
