Tim Salmon breaks two single game passing records in overtime win over Prairie Wolves

Mayville, N.D. – Tim Salmon broke two single-game passing records on Saturday, he passed for 525 yards and also threw for 7 touchdowns in the overtime victory over Nebraska Wesleyan by a final score of 55-48.

How It Happened:
The Comets started the scoring on the second play from scrimmage on a 38-yard-touchdown pass from Tim Salmon to Josh Portillo to take an early 7-0 lead.
After an NWU touchdown, the PAT was blocked so the Comets held a one-point lead after one-quarter of play. Javeion Davison scored his first touchdown of the day with 12:11 left in the first half on a 79-yard TD from Salmon to take a 14-6 lead.
After Nebraska Wesleyan scored another touchdown, MSU would score again to push the lead to eight on a 72-yard touchdown pass Salmon to Reece Smith. The Prairie Wolves would score the next two touchdowns to take a 27-21 lead heading into halftime.
On the first possession of the second half for the Comets, MSU would go for it on fourth down inside the 10-yard line and Maalik Flowers would throw a 7-yard touchdown to Chance Danner to take the lead back. Mayville State was trailing by two scores at the start of the fourth quarter before Portillo would catch his second touchdown of the game from 54 yards to cut the lead to five.
After the Comets took the lead at 41-40, Nebraska Wesleyan would take the lead back and convert on the 2-point conversion to take a 7-point lead with 1:54 left in the game. Davison would score his second touchdown of the game on a 37-yard touchdown pass to force overtime.
In overtime, MSU had a 4th downplay, and Salmon would throw a jump ball to Reece Smith for a 26-yard touchdown and give MSU a lead. For the second straight week, the MSU defense would have to stop the opponent for the win and the Comet defense on fourth down would force a fumble with the Comets recovering and picking up their second straight win.
Mayville State finished the game with 71 rushing yards, 532 passing yards, averaged 9.7 yards per play, and was 4-of-12 on third down. The Prairie Wolves finished the game with 154 rushing yards, 345 passing yards, 5.5 yards per play, and were 7-of-17 on third down.
