North Sioux City, S.D. – The Mayville State Comets complete a comeback in game two of the day to go 2-0 on day one of the tournament.
Game One:

How It Happened:
The Comets were trailing by one early in the first set when MSU would go on a 5-0 run to jump out to a 9-5 lead. Later in the set, Tabor would go on a 5-0 run to take a one-point lead. It would be back-and-forth the rest of the set, as MSU would hold set point for three consecutive points before Hill would put the finishing touches on the first set.
A similar start for the second set as MSU would go on a 6-0 run nearing the middle part of the second set to jump out to a five-point lead. The Comets would continue to extend the lead to eight points before the Blue Jays would make things interesting by going on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to two at 22-20. Tabor would get the score within one by a Cox to kill and block from Peterick and Pyburn gave the Comets a 25-22 second set victory.
After two tightly close sets, the Comets would jump out to an early lead and not give it back as they went on a 12-2 run to jump out to a 15-6 lead and to win the third set and sweep the Blue Jays by a final score of 25-13.
The Comets finished the game with 39 kills, and 20 attacking errors, for a .145 hitting percentage with 6 service aces, 4 blocks, 37 assists, and 71 digs.

Game Two:
Mayville State 3, Morningside 2
Mayville State 6-2, Morningside 2-8
How It Happened:
The Comets would have a small lead in the first set when MSU went on a run late in the set to take the first set by a final score of 25-17.
Morningside would take the second and the third set and the Comets would be down 2-1 in the sets. In the second set, MSU was trailing by six points and would rally to get the game to one point but the Mustangs would pick up the set win.
In the fourth set, MSU would lead the whole set but Morningside would close the gap to two at 20-18. MSU would close the set on a 5-1 run to force a deciding fifth set. The fifth set was back-and-forth as it was tied 9 different times throughout the set including when it was tied at 14. An attacking error by the Mustangs followed by a kill from Johnson gave the Comets a five-set victory.
The Comets finished the game with 51 kills, 33 attack errors, for a .090 hitting percentage, 7 service aces, 11 blocks, 41 assists, and 84 digs.
