BUTTE, Mont. — The Mayville State volleyball team showed plenty of grit on Friday night but came up short in a four-set battle against Montana Tech, falling 25–17, 25–6, 23–25, and 25–23 on the road.
After a tough start in the opening two sets, the Comets regrouped and delivered an inspired third-set victory to keep their hopes alive. Strong defensive play and improved communication helped Mayville State claw its way back into the match, showcasing the team's resilience against one of the top programs in the Frontier Conference.
The Comets found their rhythm in the third set, trading points with the Orediggers in one of the most competitive stretches of the night. Desidy Schwanke led the offensive charge with timely kills, while Tori Richter anchored the defense with several key digs that kept long rallies alive. Mayville held off a late Montana Tech run to take the set, 25–23, their best stretch of play all evening.
In the fourth, Mayville again kept pace with the Orediggers, staying within striking distance until the closing points. Despite a strong push from Andrea Majchrzak at the net and solid setting from Lindsey Nyhagen, Montana Tech managed to edge out the final frame 25–23 to seal the match.
The Comets will return home for the next two weeks, hosting Valley City State on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:00pm. For full schedule details visit: https://msucomets.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule
