Skylights Take Down Comets Friday Night

Mayville, N.D. - The Montana State–Northern Skylights earned a road victory on Thursday evening, sweeping the Mayville State Comets in straight sets, 25–20, 28–26, and 25–13, at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

Montana State–Northern gained control midway through the opening set, using a balanced offensive approach to secure a 25–20 win. Mayville State kept pace through the early points, led by the hitting of Desidy Schwanke and setting from Lindsey Nyhagen, but the Skylights capitalized on key rallies late to take the lead.

The second frame provided the most drama of the night. Both sides traded long rallies and multiple lead changes as Mayville State fought off several set points. Strong defensive play from Tori Richter kept the Comets in contention, but the Skylights' front line held firm, closing out the set 28–26.

In the third set, Montana State–Northern's offense found its rhythm, jumping ahead early and never relinquishing control. The Skylights' precision at the net and limited errors proved decisive, as they finished the sweep with a 25–13 result.

For Mayville State, Schwanke led the attack with 10 kills, while Nyhagen tallied 16 assists and a pair of service aces. Richter anchored the back row with 27 digs.

Mayville State will host it's third game of the week on Saturday at 4:00pm against the University of Providence who is ranked No. 2 in the Top 25 NAIA Women's Volleyball Coaches' Poll; they are also 22-1 on the season and 15-0 in conference with a current 20 game winning streak.
