MAYVILLE, N.D. — Mayville State closed out its season Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought home match up against conference powerhouse Bellevue University, falling in straight sets 25–20, 25–14, 25–21. The Bruins have lost just 3 games on the season and only 2 in conference play.
The Comets show resilience, particularly in the opening and closing frames, but the Bruins would be too much late in each set allowing them to take the sweep.
Mayville State hung tight in the first set, trading points early and trailing just 20–18 before Bellevue closed on a 5–2 run. The second set tilted heavily in the Bruins' favor, as Bellevue hit .303 while limiting the Comets to seven kills.
The third set brought Mayville State's strongest push of the afternoon. The Comets cut the deficit to 22–20 behind steady serving from Tori Richter and timely swings from Dewitz, but Bellevue's offense proved too consistent, finishing the frame with 15 kills and only three errors.
Richter anchored the back row with a team-high 20 digs, and Schwanke added 12. Setter Lindsey Nyhagen totaled 13 assists and two service aces, while Danica Hanson contributed seven assists off the bench.
Prior to the game, head coach Elora Passa and her staff honored 7 seniors:
