BILLINGS, Mont. — Mayville State put together a tough performance last Saturday, but a last-second field goal handed the Comets a narrow 29–27 loss to Rocky Mountain College ending their 2025 season.
Mayville State struck immediately when DeAnthony Thompson sacked Rocky's quarterback, forced a fumble, and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown less than a minute into the game. The Comets later extended the lead to 14–3 after Edward Norton found Jack Simmers for a 31-yard score.
The Comets dominated the ground game, rushing for 215 yards behind strong efforts from Landon Olson (88 yards) and Moses Nuahpa, who added a key 25-yard fourth-quarter touchdown that put MSU ahead 27–26 with just over seven minutes left.
Defensively, Mayville State was relentless—recording five sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and a fourth-quarter interception from Xyler Carslon. Despite the defensive stand, penalties extended Rocky Mountain's final drive, setting up the game-winning 24-yard field goal with five seconds remaining.
The Comets ended the season going 5-6, the best record under head coach, Rocky Larson, and the best record since 2015.
