Mayville, N.D. - After a shaky start, the Mayville State University volleyball team found its rhythm and powered past Bismarck State College in a four-set victory Friday night at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. The Comets dropped the opening set but responded with three straight wins to claim the match, 12–25, 25–19, 25–20, 25–16.
Senior outside hitter Andrea Majchrzak led the way offensively with 14 kills, finding seams in Bismarck State's block and swinging efficiently in transition. Setter Lindsey Nyhagen was sharp at the helm of the offense, distributing 29 assists and helping the Comets hit .139 as a team despite a slow offensive start.
Defensively, Tori Richter put on a standout performance in the back row, recording 34 digs to frustrate the Mystics' hitters and turn the tide in extended rallies.
After being outplayed in the first set, Mayville responded in the second by tightening up defensively and cutting down on unforced errors. The Comets' front line—led by Kathryn Agnew, who posted 7 blocks—began to assert itself, while service pressure helped disrupt Bismarck's offensive flow.
The Comets also had the edge from the service line, tallying six aces to Bismarck's one, and were evenly matched in digs (89 each), a testament to the gritty back-row play on both sides.
Mayville State returns to action this Thursday as they head south to Dakota State University followed by a match up with Bellevue University on Friday.
