Derrick Berry

Coach Berry serves as the Linebackers coach in his first season with the Mayville State Comet Football program.  Prior to joining the Comet Football staff in the spring of 2020, Berry coached Linebackers for Head Coach Rocky Larson’s brother, Reggie Larson, at New Richmond High School.
 
Berry started his college playing career as an Inside Linebacker at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville and finished his career as a Defensive Lineman at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls after spending one season at Central Lakes College.  
 
Berry is a Mississippi native that moved with his family to Somerset, Wisconsin the summer before his junior year.  He played both offense and defense for Head Coach Rocky Larson’s father, Bruce Larson, at Somerset High School.  Berry played in back to back WIAA Football State Championships alongside Mayville State Football Defensive Back’s coach Tyler Ledbeter, where they won in overtime their senior season after losing in double overtime their junior year.  Berry also played baseball and wrestled in the winter and spring seasons of high school.  
 
Coach Berry graduated from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls where he earned his B.S. in Business Administration and Economics.  Berry is a current student of Concordia University - Irvine in pursuit of his master's degree.
