Katie Aasen, a native of Pine River, Minnesota is entering her second season as head volleyball coach for the Comets where she previously spent six years as an assistant coach and also played.
During Aasen's first season at the helm, the Comets went 15-11 overall and 6-6 in NSAA Conference Play ending up 4th in conference. Elora Passa was named First Team All-Conference and Natalie Hadrava was named Second Team All-Conference.
As an assistant coach for the Comets, Jayden Warner was named to 2018 NAIA All-American Honorable Mention and 2019 NAIA All-American Third Team. Victoria Johnson was named to NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2019. Johnson and Warner were named to NSAA First Team All-Conference, while Hannah Bliss and Elora Passa were named to Second Team All-Conference.
From 2013-2014, Coach Aasen finished her collegiate career at Mayville State receiving NSAA Conference Setter of the Week award 12 times, First Team All-Conference awards in 2013 and 2014, All-Region award in 2014, and the NSAA Conference Setter of the Year award in 2013 and 2014. She also was named an NSAA Scholar-Athlete.
Prior to Mayville State, Coach Aasen played volleyball and basketball at North Dakota State College of Science where she was a member of the MonDak First Team All-Conference for volleyball and a member of a conference and regional championship volleyball team.
Coach Aasen graduated from Mayville State University in 2016 with a B.S.E. degree in Physical Education with minors in coaching, health education, and adaptive physical education. In 2018, Katie graduated from NDSU with a M.S. degree in Leadership in Physical Education and Sport. After that, she was hired as a full-time instructor on campus in the Health Physical Education and Recreation department.
Coach Aasen resides in Mayville with her husband Marcus and their two sons Loken and Kiyer.
