Laura Taylors' 32 point, 24 rebound performance paced the Mayville State University women's basketball team to a 99-59 win over the Trinity Bible College Lions. The Comets came into the game with only six active players available with
Erin Ericson and
Angela Tauer sidelined with injuries.
The Lions played a tough first half down just ten at the break. The Comets turned up their defense in the second half and cruised to a victory. With just over 17 minutes left in the game
Kay Laforet went down with an ankle injury and was out for the rest of the game leaving the Comets with five players to finish out the game.
Hailey Longtin also finished with 32 points for the Comets on 11-of-22 shooting including 7-for-13 from beyond the three-point line. Hailey did a great job running off screens and getting ready to catch-and-shoot.
Hannah Wenaas had a very solid all-around game for the Comets.
Wenaas finished with 28 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and six steals. She did a great job reading passing lanes and getting steals.
Kelli Smart finished with just one point tonight but dished out 12 assists. She did a great job finding her open teammate and being unselfish with the ball in her hands.
Five Comets played over 30 minutes in this game so their endurance was really tested in this game.
The Comets forced 30 Lions turnovers in this game leading to many easy baskets.
The Comets next scheduled game was going to be on Monday, January 31st, 2011 against the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux but has been rescheduled to Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
