The Comet women's basketball team was looking for a strong performance all-around after dropping their past two games. They got it on Tuesday, November 15
th, 2011 with a 95-48 rout of Trinity Bible College. Mayville State won all the battles that most people look at as the difference in any game. The Comets pulled down more rebounds, forced more turnovers, and shot a better percentage from the floor as they cruised to the victory.
Erin Ericson and
Hailey Longtin found the range in the game and put the Comets out to an early lead. Ericson, a senior from Hatton, North Dakota was 7-for-14 from the field and went 5-for-11 from the three-point line. She led all scorers with 20 points in just over 21 minutes of action.
Longtin followed Ericson with 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Longtin also scored often as she was only in for 21 minutes in the game.
As a team the Comets shot 49% from the field (33-for-68) and 89% from the free throw line (17-for-19). The sharp shooting combined with the depth they used on their roster worked well in our favor. Fifteen different players played in this game and thirteen of them found their way into the scoring column. No one played more than 22 minutes which kept them all fresh during the game.
The Comet defense was strong again tonight as they held the Lions to 36% shooting and forced them into 31 turnovers. Those extra possessions kept Trinity from ever putting together any run to comeback in the game.
Sabrina Rude came off the bench in this game and ended up leading the team in rebounds. The freshman from McVille, North Dakota pulled down seven rebounds to go along with her four points, three assists and two steals. She did all that in just 15 minutes of playing time.
Another strong performance off the bench was from
Hannah Wenaas. The senior came in and led the team in assists as she collected eight of them in the game. Wenaas also scored 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting to have finish with a strong all-around performance.
There isn't a whole lot of time before the Comet women will be on the road again. The Comets (7-2) will head over to Crookston to take on the University of Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles on Friday, November 18
th, 2011. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
