Laura Taylor scores 36 in losing effort against Dickinson State University

Laura Taylor poured in 36 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a 74-72 defeat at the hands of Dickinson State University on Saturday, February 5th, 2011 at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville. The Comets trailed 37-28 at the break before they made their move. Taylor paced the Comets on offense with strong finishes in the paint and converting her free throws. The Sophomore from Maddock, ND was 14-for-17 from the free throw line en route to her game-high point total.

Mayville State got back in the game by going through Taylor in the second half. Laura finished well in traffic and was strong with the ball committing only one turnover. Taylor also led the Comets in rebounds with eight.

Hailey Longtin was also big during the comeback as she finished with 23 points. The bulk of the Comet offense came from Longtin and Taylor as they combined for 59 of our 72 total points.

The Comets did get Erin Ericson back in the line-up tonight which kept the rest of the rotation fresh for their final push in the second half. The junior guard played 25 minutes and finished with six points.

Dickinson State had a balanced attack with four players hitting double figures. Kelsey Boedeker paced the Blue Hawks. Amber Adams was right behind her as she finished with 18 points. Adams also grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists. Kylee Bittner and Mandy Adams finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The Blue Hawks did a good job getting to the offensive glass pulling down 14 offensive rebounds. Mandy Mullock led the team with eight rebounds.

The Comets had a much more efficient second half scoring the ball as they shot 48% in the second half compared to 32% in the first. Over half of our made field goals were assisted, so the girls were doing a good job playing together and finding the open teammate.

Mayville State University (4-15) (2-8) will be in action again on Friday, February 11th, 2011 as they travel to Rapid City, South Dakota to take on Dakota State University.
