MAYVILLE, ND -- Bridget Schuneman scored 23 points to lead the Jamestown College Jimmies (21-3) over the Mayville State University Comets in women's basketball on January 28
th, 2012 in Mayville, ND. The Jimmies offense was balanced which was too much for the Comets to overcome as they came out on top 101-82. Four Jimmies scored in double figures as Hannah Steele, Casey Geffre and Carley Jenson each added 13 points.
The real difference in the game was the Jimmies advantage on the glass. Jamestown outrebounded the Comets 46-25 including 20 offensive rebounds. Amber Ramlo led the Jimmies with nine rebounds. Bridget Schuneman and Jordan Bridges each pulled down six.
Hailey Longtin had one of the better shooting nights of her young career against the Jimmies tonight. The sophomore guard scored 27 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Longtin was 5-for-10 from the three point line and converted 10-of-13 free throws.
Megan Groen had a nice game for Mayville State as well. The senior score 18 points and grabbed four rebounds. Groen was 10-for-14 from the free throw line as she did a good job getting to the basket and to the free throw line.
Kay Laforet followed Groen with 14 points of her own. Laforet drove the ball well and finished in traffic when she had chances.
The Comets did a very good job staying aggressive and getting to the free throw line. As a team they converted 29-of-41 shots at the free throw line.
The Jimmies balance and rebounding were too much to overcome in this one. Down ten at the half, the Comets made a run right away in the second half to put Jamestown on their heels. The Jimmies responded well and put the game away in the final minutes.
The Comets (12-9) will be in action again on February 1
st, 2012 in Mayville as they take on the Dickinson State University Bluehawks at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse.
