JAMESTOWN, ND – The Mayville State women's basketball team improved to 4-0 after a dominant 80-48 victory over Brandon University on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Jimmie Classic in Jamestown, ND. The Comets were very balanced offensively with four players hitting double figures.
The Comets led at the half 41-29 and turned up the intensity in the second half to put Brandon University away. Mayville State clamped down on defense outscoring Brandon 39-19 in the second half en route to an 80-48 victory.
The Comets won the rebounding battle 43-27 over Brandon University. Mayville State gave themselves plenty of extra opportunities collecting 16 offensive rebounds in the game.
The Comets were led by junior guard
Samantha Heier. Heier scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the game.Heier, a transfer from Williston State College stepped into the starting line-up for
Hailey Longtin after a mild injury kept her out of action in the game.
Marcisa McMillan had another double-double for Mayville State with 11 points and 10 rebounds in the game. McMillan played well in the Jimmie Classic averaging 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds over the weekend.
Sabrina Rude came off the bench and had another good game for Mayville State. Rude scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and has two assists coming off the bench.
Missy Kassube rounded out the scoring with 12 points going perfect from the floor. Kassube was 5-for-5 from the field and was 2-for-2 at the free throw line.
Mayville State University (4-0) will be on the road again next weekend as they play in the Dakota Wesleyan Classic in Mitchell, SD. The Comets will be playing Dakota Wesleyan University on Friday (11/2/12) at 6:00 p.m. and Mounty Marty on Saturday (11/3/12) at 2:00 p.m.
