The Mayville State University women's basketball team traveled to Jamestown College to take on the Jimmies in a top 20 showdown on Thursday, January 24
th.
The Comets took a commanding lead in the first half behind the play of their stingy defense that held Jamestown to shooting 26% from the field. The solid defense led to offense for the Comets as they shot 13-29 from the field and took a 39-26 lead going into the break.
“We were very happy with our play in the first half, but felt that the first five minutes of the second half would be very important,” said Coach
Dennis Hutter.
After an early surge by the Jimmies that cut the lead to 9 the Comets took control and built their lead to as big as 26 points. It was smooth sailing from that point for the Lady Comets as they went on to win by a final of 92-79.
Mayville State had balanced scoring with four girls in double figures.
Sabrina Rude led the way with 24 points. Rude was feeling it from behind the arc going 6-9 from 3 point land.
Marcisa McMillan was big down low for the Comets adding 18 points to go along with her 11 rebounds.
Samantha Heier had a nice game with 14 points and
Hailey Longtin added 13.
The Comets are now 17-2. They will be in action at home on Monday, January 28
th to take on the Dakota State Trojans. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
