MAYVILLE, N.D. --
Hailey Longtin scored 17 points and
Marcisa McMillan had 16 points, 10 rebounds as the No. 15 team in the country lost to Jamestown 70-61 in the season finale on Sunday at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse.
Longtin scored at least 17 points for the fifth consecutive game as Mayville State (20-4) lost for just the fourth time this season.
Jamestown's Bridget Schuneman led the Jimmies in scoring with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field to lead the Jimmies (24-5) past the Comets.
The Comets shot 35.8 percent for the game (19-for-53) as they struggled to get into a rhythm offensively in the contest.
The other Achilles heel in this game for the Comets was not being able to convert at the free throw line. The Comets shot 60 percent (18-for-30) which is well under the teams' season average of 73 percent.
Neither team was able to play a very 'clean' game as there were 42 turnovers (23 MSU, 19 JC) total in the game as both defenses were playing very intense.
The Comets had advantages in rebounding (37-31), blocks (4-1), and three point shots made (5-4).
The loss gives the Jimmies the regular season A.I.I. championship and #1 seed in next weekend's A.I.I. tournament in Jamestown, N.D.
Mayville State will be the #2 seed in the tournament and receive a first round bye in the tournament. The Comets (20-4) will play their first game of the tournament on Saturday, February 23
rd, 2012 at the Jamestown Civic Center.
