Box Score The Comets Men's Basketball team had to play five extra minutes on Friday, but ended up securing their first win of the season, a 73-69 victory over the York College Panthers.
York was able to get out to a 20-13 lead after a 15-4 run, but the Comets answered with a 22-9 run of their own and managed to end the first half with a slim 35-32 lead. The second half was as back and forth as you can get, with nine ties and eight lead changes. No team held a lead bigger than 5 points.
Jamal Branco tied the game on a layup off with 44 seconds to go, and the game went into overtime. In the overtime, Branco and
Chuck Robinson combined for all 10 Comet points while Mayville State held the Panthers to 1/7 shooting to fend off York 73-69.
Branco led all scorers with 23 points and also hauled down 12 rebounds. Robinson contributed 12 points and 8 boards,
Josh DeWitt canned three 3-pointers enroute to 11 points, and
A.B. Najee reached double figures with 10. The Comets shot 48% from the field and outrebound the Panthers 48-39, but also committed 27 turnovers.
The win boosts the Comets record to 1-2, and will be back in action Saturday against the Concordia Bulldogs, tipoff is at 300.
