Box Score The Comets Women's Basketball team wrapped up their non-conference schedule by hosting the Trinity Bible College Lions. Mayville State's defense pressured the Lions all night, resulting in an 83-28 victory.
Both teams hit some shots early, and halfway through the first quarter, the Comets held a slim 9-8 lead. Mayville State went on a 14-3 run to finish the quarter strong, leading 23-11. The Comets defense clamped down in earnest in the second, holding the Lions without a point in the first eight minutes of the quarter. At halftime, the Comets lead ballooned to 52-15. The strong defense continued in the third quarter, as Mayville State limited Trinity to only eight points while scoring 18 to push the lead to 70-23. All 11 Comets got ample playing time in the second half and 10 got on the scoreboard as Mayville State cruised to an 83-28 win. The Comets held Trinity to 17% shooting overall and also outrebounded the Lions 55-29.
Jenna Lundon drained six 3-pointers to lead the Comets with 21.
Liza Hoglo scored 12 points, pulled down 11 boards and dished out 7 assists in under 20 minutes of play,
Alexia Olson added 11 points and 8 rebounds,
Karleigh Weber recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 caroms, and
Andi Gayner also reached double figures with 10.
The Comets record now stands at 12-5. The Comets host Dickinson State next Wednesday in a pivotal NSAA contest.
