The Mayville State Men's Basketball team had another adventure on the road down in St Peter, MN tonight, taking on the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties. The Comets found themselves down early in the contest, but some runs late in the first half and another in the early minutes of the second half helped lift the Comets to a win on the road, 98-63 over the Gusties.
The game saw some early ties as
Daniel Lindgren hit two of his four first-half three pointers to keep the Comets close. A 10-2 dry spell would hit the Comets until they hit an 8 point run to tie things up at 21. From there,
Max Cooper connected on the next two possessions, followed by a
Daymarcco Green bucket and 2 more three's coming from Lindgren to boost the Comets ahead by 8. They would maintain a steady lead as the half ran out, including a last second three pointer coming from
Creighton Pfau to lift them up by 5, 48-43 at the break.
MSU came out on fire in the second half, scoring eight unanswered points to build the lead to 13. That fire would continue to heat up the court for the Comets in the first 8 minutes of the half, as they extended the lead to 20 at 76 to 56. A host of Comets were a part of the 28-13 run that forced GAC to call a timeout with 11:50 to go in the game. It was a key point in the game for the Comets, as four Mayville State players ended up with double figures in the effort.
Gorg Alhag,
Max Cooper and
Eric Staebler contributed in a steady fashion all night in rebounds and in points on the board.
Creighton Pfau also had a nice transition from the football field to the basketball court by shooting 4-5 from the field. It all came together for a nice 25 point win over the Golden Gusties, 98 to 63, for the Comets' fourth win on the season.
Daniel Lindgren led the way for the Comets with 18 in the game,16 of those coming in the first half. He was 7-12 from the field and 4-8 on three's.
Gorg Alhag followed with 16,
Eric Staebler added another 13, and
Max Cooper ended the night with 12. Alhag co-led the team with 5 rebounds and had 5 assists in the game.
The Comets now move to 4-2 on the season and get ready for another road game coming up on Wednesday, Nov 14th against Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, MN for an exhibition matchup at 6 p.m.
