Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Monday in a high-scoring affair where the Comets bested the University of Jamestown, 9-6, in Jamestown, N.D.
In the first inning, Mayville State got their offense started when
Brady Nygaard singled on a 3-1 count, scoring a run. The Comets tacked on two more in the inning to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.
Mayville State tallied three more runs in the fourth inning afterÂ
Adam Senden sent an RBI single to right field scoring
Riley Nelson and
Evyn Yamaguchi to go up 6-1.
The Jimmies would make things interesting late when Drake Pilat and Kaleb Binstock were able to score in the seventh inning to bring the Jimmies within two runs at 8-6, but that's as close as they would get as
Zach Giesbrecht would shut the door down the stretch for the Comets.

Julian Ortiz entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Giesbrecht recorded the last seven outs to earn the save for the Comets .
