SIOUX CITY, IOWA – The 21
st-ranked Mayville State women's basketball team looks to wrap up a rather successful first half of the 2019-2020 season this weekend, as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to participate in the 2019 Country Inn and Suites Holiday Classic on Saturday and Sunday at the Newman Flanagan Center.
The Comets will take on the host Briar Cliff Chargers on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., and they'll wrap up the weekend, taking on the Morningside Mustangs on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Mayville State enters this weekend with a 9-2 record overall and a 1-0 North Star Athletic Association record.
The Comets have three players in double-figures in the scoring column—
Claire Blascziek, who averages 14.3 points per game;
Kylee Heurung, who is averaging 14.2 points per game; and
Nicole Bunting, who comes into this weekend averaging 10.7 points per game. The Comets average 75.5 points per game offensively, while they have given up an average of 57.1 points per game defensively.

Mayville State vs. Briar Cliff

Mayville State will open up the Holiday Classic, taking on the Briar Cliff University Chargers.
Briar Cliff comes into this weekend's action with a record of 3-10 overall. They are 1-6 in the GPAC. So far this season, Briar Cliff has faced a pair of North Star Athletic Association teams. They defeated Dakota State University in the first game of the season 85-73 and defeated the Trojans again on December 15, 74-59. The Chargers are 1-6 in their last seven games.
Briar Cliff is led in scoring by Konnor Sudmann, who paces the Chargers with 16.8 points per game. Madelyn Deitchler is averaging 14.3 points per game this season, while Alyssa Carley is averaging 11.2 points per game. As a team, the Chargers are averaging 67.8 points per game offensively, while giving up 83.9 points per game defensively.

On Sunday, Mayville State will take on the Morningside Mustangs.
Morningside comes into this weekend with a record of 10-3 overall. They are 6-1 in the GPAC. The Mustangs have picked up one win against a North Star Athletic Association team, a 104-57 win over the Dakota State Trojans on December 18. The Mustangs are 8-2 in their last ten games.
Morningside is led by Sydney Hupp, who is averaging 16.5 points per game; Sierra Mitchell, who averages 16.2 points per game; Sophia Peppers, averaging 13.8 points per game; and Taylor Rodenburgh, who averages 10.2 points per game for the Mustangs. Offensively, the Mustangs average 86.7 points per game, while they give up 67.8 points per game defensively.
