The Comets claimed a 6-3 victory on Thursday night, despite a big push by Robert Morris University-Illinois in the first inning. 

The Eagles got things started in the first when Montana Martinez singled on a 2-2 count, scoring a run. Alex Laphen followed that up with a double that drove in two more, but that's as many as Robert Morris would get. Shaye Kemball was able to shut the door for the remainder of the game, the junior went seven innings, allowing the three runs on four hits, striking out nine and walking none. 

Mayville State was able to respond and tie things up in the bottom half of the first. Nicole Bunting got things rolling with a triple that scored Dayna Gutierrez and Amanda Izzo to bring them within one. Then Alissa Foster singled in Bunting to even the game.

The Comets pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. Sierra Niedge doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, driving in Jade Ledochowski. Niedge would later score on an error by the Eagles to give the Comets a 5-3 lead. MSU would tack on an insurance run in the fifth to make it 6-3. 

Nicole Abrams took the loss for Robert Morris University-Illinois. She surrendered five runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one. Madison Christ threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Mayville State racked up nine hits in the game. Niedge and Izzo both managed two hits to lead the way for the Comets.
