Zachary Foster showed timely hitting on Saturday, driving in four on two hits to lead the Comets past Viterbo 7-2 in an elimination game in the North Star Conference Tournament. Foster went deep twice in the game, driving in runs with three-run home run in the second and a solo shot in the sixth.
Kyle Maunahan also drove in two runs in the third inning to build Mayville State's lead over the V-Hawks and make it 5-2 at the time. The Comets racked up 12 hits on the day, Foster, Maunahan,
Adrian Zubia, and
Gunner Garpestad each collected a pair of hits to lead the way for MSU.
Josh Rodriguez took the win for the Comets. He went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out eight and walking zero.
Kyle Gilbertson took the loss for Viterbo. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one.
Mayville State will now play the loser of the matchup between Waldorf and Valley City State tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
