DICKINSON, ND – The 16
th-ranked Mayville State University Comets wrapped another weekend of North Star Athletic Association play with a victory. This time, the Comets traveled out west to Dickinson, where they took on the Blue Hawks. Mayville State dominated from start to finish, downing the Blue Hawks 90-59.
"The kids played with great effort and energy defensively today," Comets head coach
Dennis Hutter said. "I'm really proud of their effort."
Dickinson State led 18-17 after one quarter, while Mayville State led at the other three quarter breaks—at halftime, 41-33; and after three quarters, 69-46.
Mayville State was led in scoring by four players in double-figures—including
Claire Blascziek, who finished with 26 points;
Kylee Heurung with a double-double—20 points and 12 rebounds;
Nicole Bunting, 15 points; and
Cyan Hale, 13 points.
Mayville State shot strong, shooting at a 51-point-6 percent pace, 32-of-62, including 12 three-pointers, six from Blascziek; and the Comets were nearly perfect from the free-throw line, missing two of their 16 shots.
"We shot the ball well," Hutter said. "Which was good to see on the second night of a back-to-back."
With the win, Mayville State went 2-0 on the weekend, improving to 17-2 overall and remaining undefeated in North Star play, with a record of 6-0. The Comets will continue conference play next Friday and Saturday at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. The Comets will host Dickinson State on Friday and Valley City State on Saturday.
"This was a good weekend for our team on the road," Hutter said. "We're excited to be at home the next two weekends."
