Warriors strong second half propels them over Comets Saturday

Forest City, IA – The Mayville State University Football team dropped a conference game to Waldorf Warriors by a final score of 21-55 Saturday. After the loss, the Comets drop to 0-3 on the regular season and 0-3 in NSAA play.
 
It was a fast start for both team as the Warriors scored on second play of the game to take an early 7-0 lead. Daniel Jimenez recovered a fumble to the house with 12:06 left in the first quarter to tie the game at seven. It would take one play for the Warriors to score the next touchdown on a 62-yard run to give the Warrior a seven-point advantage again.
 
Waldorf would score another touchdown with 12:12 left in the second quarter to give them a two-touchdown lead. Mayville State would answer right back with back-to-back touchdowns on a pair of short runs from Creighton Pfau from four yards and one yard to tie the game at 21. It was all Warriors after that, as they would score the next 34 points as they took the victory 21-55.
 
The Comets as a team finished with 350 total yard of offense, 307 passing yards, and 43 yards rushing. The defense for the MSU allowed 517 total yards, 282 rushing yards, 235 passing yards, and forced one interception. Pfau threw 19-40 for 250 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed for ten yards and two touchdowns. Cole Dukart led the rushing attack with 49 yards rushing.
 
Elijah Roundtree finished with seven reception for 114 yards with a reception of 52 yards. Joshua Portillo recorded two receptions for 56 yards and Maalik Flowers recorded five receptions for 52 yards. Defensively, Tim Rooks led the team with 11 total tackles, four solo tackles, seven assisting tackles, and 1.0 tackle for loss. Austin DeLaroque tallied seven tackles with one interception. Derrick Prater recorded five tackles and one fumble recovery.
 
Comet Football is back in action next week as they host Dickinson State for Homecoming. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM from Jerome Berg Field against the Blue Hawks.
