Comets drop Homecoming game to Blue Hawks

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State football team dropped the Homecoming game to Dickinson State by a final score of 37-7. The Comets drop to 0-4 on the regular season.
 
Dickinson State started the scoring in the first quarter on an eight-yard run by Derek Tabor to give the Blue Hawks a 7-0 lead. The Blue Hawks would put a long drive together at the end of the first quarter into the second quarter that resulted in a touchdown pass from Drew Boedecker to give them a 14-0 lead.
 
DSU would score one more touchdown at the 4:37 mark of the second quarter to give them a 21-0 lead. The next DSU possession would result in an interception by Danzele Navy to give the Comets good field position at the 39-yard line. The Comets could not capitalize on the turnover and head into the locker room down 21-0.
 
Mayville State would open the second half with a 11-play drive that covered 27 yards to get the ball into Dickinson State territory. On fourth down threw an interception to end the scoring chance. The next MSU possession resulted in a touchdown pass from Tim Salmon to Maalik Flowers for 82 yards to cut the lead to a two-possession game.
 
The Blue Hawks would score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give them a 37-7 victory over the Comets. Mayville State finished the game with 11 first downs, 76 rushing yards, 181 passing yards, and 257 total yards. The defense for the Comets forced two interceptions, 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack for nine yards.  
 
Tim Salmon finished the game with 8-of-21 passing for 136 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. Salmon also rushed for 41 yards on seven attempts. Creighton Pfau finished 4-of-9 with 45 yards and one interception. Jason Nelson and Cole Dukart tallied for 13 yards on the ground. Maalik Flowers pulled in three receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown.
 
Josh Portillo led the Comet receivers with six receptions for 53 yards. Defensively for the Comets, Josiah Walker finished the game with a team high 14 total tackles, five solo, three tackles for loss, and 1.0 sacks. Derrick Prater finished tied with Thomas Enerson for nine total tackles. Enerson also picked up 2.0 tackles for loss.  Danzele Navy and My'Quel Johnson each recorded an interception in the game.
 
The Comets are on the road next week as they travel to Presentation College to face-off with the Saints. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
