Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Comet Volleyball team extends their winning streak to seven with a sweep over Valley City State by a final of 25-20, 25-14, 25-16. Comets move to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in NSAA play.
Comets were up 5-4 in the first set before a 6-1 run gave them a six-point advantage heading into the middle stages of the first set. Valley City State would answer back with a 9-2 run to take a one-point lead. The first set was tied at 16 before Mayville State finished the set with a 9-4 run to take the first set.
After the Vikings took the first four points of set two, MSU would score nine-of-the-next ten points to take a 9-5 lead. With the Comets only up two points, Mayville State would score five points in a row and seven-of-eight in route to a 25-14 second set victory.
With the third set tied at seven, the Comets would go on another big run of 8-2 to give them some a 15-9 lead. Mayville State would not look back as they finish the sweep in the third set by a final of 25-16. The Comets tallied 37 kills on 87 attempts with 11 errors for a hitting percentage of .299. They also finished with ten blocks, seven aces, 35 assists, and 43 digs.
Elora Passa finished the game with a double-double with 11 kills and 10 assists. Rachel Hill tallied 22 assists, two service aces, and five digs in the victory. Victoria Johnson recorded seven kills, three solo blocks, and three blocking assists. Ashley Pyburn was very efficient from the attack line notching six kills in nine attempts. Mason Hart led the defense for the Comets with 15 digs. Jordan Lucas was second on the team with seven digs.
The Comets are back home on October 10th as they host Dickinson State and University of Northwestern (MN). The first serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM from the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
