Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Men's Basketball team only allowed 49 points on Saturday as they cruise to an 80-49 victory against Presentation College. The Comets improve to 4-1 on the regular season and 1-0 in conference play.
The Saints and Comets traded buckets early in the first half, as MSU only had a three-point lead with 15:21 left in the first half. Mayville State continued to stretch the lead out, as they had a 10-point advantage with 6:19 left in the first half. MSU allowed a 2-point bucked late in the first half to take a 13-point lead heading into the intermission.
Mayville State started the second half on an 11-2 run to stretch the lead out to 22. Xavier Towne scored six points during those three minutes. With the Comets up 41-68 with 6:50 left in the game, MSU went on a 10-0 run to stretch the lead to 37 and cruise to the 80-49 victory in the conference opener.
Mayville State shot 46.6 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from the 3-point line, 19-of-22 from the free-throw line, and tallied 35 rebounds. MSU also had 16 assists on 27 field goals, 20 points off turnovers, 25 bench points, and eight second-chance points.
Keiron Goodwin scored a game-high 24 points and picked up four steals. Latrelle Franklin scored double figures with 15 points, four rebounds, and two rebounds. Xavier Towne scored eight points, one rebound, and one steal. Iker Cruz tallied seven rebounds, five points, three assists, and one steal. Winder Joseph scored 10 points off the bench with one rebound, one assist, and one steal.
The Comets are back in action on Tuesday as they host Trinity Bible College Tuesday night at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm against the Lions.
