MINNEAPOLIS, MINN – The Comet baseball team opened up the 2020 season early Saturday morning with a split against Dakota Wesleyan at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn., the home of the Minnesota Vikings.
Game One
Mayville State 4, Dakota Wesleyan 3
Mayville State took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 4-3 walk-off victory over Dakota Wesleyan University. The game was tied at three with Mayville State batting in the bottom of the seventh when Michael Theisen singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Quinton Bidon took the win for Mayville State. He lasted one inning, allowing one hit and one run while striking out two and walking one. Conner DiNaro threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Caleb Johnson took the loss for Dakota Wesleyan University. He surrendered two runs on five hits over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Parker Stohr started the game for Mayville State. He allowed three hits and one run over four innings, striking out two and walking zero Dominique Boerger started the game for Dakota Wesleyan University. He lasted five innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out six and walking zero
Mayville State hit one home run on the day. Jared McCorrister went for the long ball in the sixth inning.
Mayville State tallied 11 hits in the game. Theisen, Marcus Hughes, and McCorrister all managed multiple hits for Mayville State. Theisen led Mayville State with three hits in four at bats. Mayville State was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Kyle Maunahan had the most chances in the field with eight.
Drew DeMers went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Dakota Wesleyan University in hits.

Dakota Wesleyan 2, Mayville State 0
Both teams were strong on the hill on Saturday, but Dakota Wesleyan University was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Mayville State on Saturday. Josh Rodriguez started the game for Mayville State and recorded 12 outs.
A double by Michael Theisen in the first inning was a positive for Mayville State.
