Despite allowing three runs in the seventh inning, the Comets defeated Valley City State 10-5 on Sunday. Riley Perryman and Renee Snyder each drove in runs during the inning. Mayville State opened up scoring in the first inning.
Jocelyn Ontiveros drove in two when she homered. The Vikings are ranked 10th in the country.
"It was a fun game. Our bats came alive today," Comets head coach
Ashley Tomblin said. "It's always tough to see a conference opponent early on, but we handled ourselves well."
The Comets scored three runs in the sixth inning.
Dayna Gutierrez and
Shaye Kemball each had RBIs in the frame.
Annika Seedborg earned the win for Mayville State. She went seven innings, allowing five runs on 14 hits, striking out four and walking one.
Amber Stewart took the loss for the Vikings. She went seven innings, allowing ten runs on 16 hits, striking out seven and walking one.
The Comets hit one home run on the day. Ontiveros went deep in the first inning.
They totaled 16 hits. Gutierrez,
Mackenzie Duval, Kemball, Ontiveros, and
Lindsey Swanson each collected multiple hits for the Comets Varsity. Duval and Gutierrez all had three hits to lead Mayville State.
Valley City State saw the ball well today, racking up 14 hits in the game. Sierra Crocker, Marissa Hawkins, Joelle Aiello, Keana Harmon, and Madison Gronau each racked up multiple hits for the Vikings.
