The Mayville State University softball team split on their last day of the spring trip. The Comets move to 6-6 on the season heading into a break.
Game One:
Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle on Sunday, but the Blue Hawks was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Mayville State on Sunday.
Annika Seedborg started the game for the Comets and recorded 18 outs.
Mayville State University Comets Varsity lost despite out-hitting DSU Blue Hawks three to two. A single by
Dayna Gutierrez in the third inning was a positive for Mayville State University Comets Varsity.
Seedborg took the loss for Mayville State University Comets Varsity. She went six innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out four and walking one.
Shaye Kemball,
Nicole Bunting, and Gutierrez each collected one hit to lead Mayville State.
Game Two:
The Comets defeated The Warriors Warriors Varsity 7-4 thanks to a strong start. Mayville State scored on a double by
Brooke Roeges in the first inning, a passed ball during
Nicole Bunting's at bat in the first inning, and a double by
Jocelyn Ontiveros in the second inning.
The Warriors Warriors Varsity scored three runs in the first inning, but Mayville State still managed to pull out the victory. The Warriors Warriors Varsity batters contributing to the big inning included Payge Jurgens and Bryn Gibbs, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Shaye Kemball got the win for The Comets. She went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out eight.The Comets racked up nine hits on the day.
Dayna Gutierrez and
Alissa Foster each racked up multiple hits. Gutierrez went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Mayville State in hits.
