Comet Volleyball finished the road trip with a doubleheader sweep

McPherson, KS – The Mayville State Volleyball team picked up two wins this morning by a final of 3-2 and 3-0. The Comets head into conference play with a 5-2 record.

Game One:

In the first set of the day, the Comets lost by a final score of 17-25. Mayville State finished the set with 10 kills with nine errors and 45 attempts for a .022 hitting percentage. KWU finished the first set with 13 kills with four errors and a .191 hitting percentage.

MSU would come back and tied the game at one with a 25-17 set win. The hitting improved from the first set, putting 12 balls down with four errors and 41 attempts. Kansas Wesleyan was held to a .082 hitting percentage in the second set with 11 kills, seven errors on 49 attempts.

The pivotal third set went to the Coyotes with a 21-25 win. Mayville State tallied six fewer kills than the Coyotes in the third set. Mayville State would tie the game at two with a 25-19 fourth set win. MSU had 16 kills with only two errors and a hitting percentage of .359.

The fifth set went back and forth as the Comets had match point, but the Coyotes tied the game at 14. It was tied at 16 before MSU scored the final two points to defeat Kansas Wesleyan. Mason Hart led the Comet defense with 28 digs in the back row. Jordyn Lucas recorded 20 digs in the five-set win with one serve receive error.

Victoria Johnson led the Mayville State offense with 17 kills and five blocks. Elora Passa recorded her fourth triple-double with 12 kills, 28 assists, and 12 digs. Lily Pyle was two kills short of double figures with eight. She also tallied four blocks in the match.

Game Two:

The Comets used the momentum from game one and took care of business in game two defeating the Tigers by a final score of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-17. The Comets finished game two with 45 kills with 18 errors on 133 swings for a .203 hitting percentage. Mayville State finished with six service aces and only two errors.

Elora Passa finished with a .435 hitting percentage on 12 kills and 23 attempts. Rachel Hill tallied a team-high 16 assists in the three-set sweep over the Tigers. Mason Hart for the second straight game led the back row in digs with 21.

The Comets are back in action on Tuesday for the NSAA Conference opener against Presentation College. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm against the Saints.
