Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team opened the conference season with a 3-0 sweep over the Presentation College Saints by a final score of 25-22, 25-22, 25-14. The Comets move to 6-2 on the regular season and 1-0 in conference play.
MSU started the game on a 3-0 run, PC then went on a 5-0 run to take the 5-3 lead early in the first set. The Comets would be up 9-10 when a little separation was created by Mayville State creating a five-point lead at 14-9. The Comets would score six out of the last eight points to take a 25-22 set victory.
Presentation College was up 6-3 in the second set before the Comets went on a 7-1 run to give themselves a 10-7 lead. The Saints would create a 6-1 run to take the lead back at 14-15. With PC ahead by two points,
Victoria Johnson would cut the lead in half and start a crucial 5-0 run late in the second set to give them a 22-19 lead.
After PC tied it at 22, the Comets scored the final three points to take set two by the same score as set one 25-22. It was all MSU in the third set, 9-2 run early in the set to jump out to a 10-4 lead. That run was followed by a 9-1 run to give themselves a 19-6 lead and complete the sweep by a final score of 25-14.
Mayville State finished the game with 41 kills on 16 errors on 128 attempts for a hitting percentage of .195. They also finished with two aces, nine blocks, 36 assists, and 73 digs. Leading the charge for the Comets was
Victoria Johnson with 13 kills and five blocks.
Ashley Pyburn finished the game with seven kills and three blocks.
Jordyn Lucas finished with 19 digs and one service ace.
Elora Passa tallied nine kills, 16 assists, three blocks, and six digs.
Mason Hart recorded 16 digs and
Amy Seim finished with 11.
The Comets are back in action Thursday at the Lewy Lee for a non-conference matchup against Briar Cliff. First serve is scheduled for 6 pm against the Chargers.
