Comet Volleyball defeats Briar Cliff in four sets

Mayville, N.D. – The Comet Volleyball team defeated Briar Cliff by a final score of 3-1 Thursday night. The Comets move to 7-2 on the regular season.
 
The game was tied at 10 in the first set before the Chargers went on a 5-1 run to take a lead in the middle of the set. After a kill from Briar Cliff, the Comets went on a 7-1 run to take a 20-17 lead late in the first set. The Chargers would tie the game at 22 before scoring two of the next three points to get to set point. Back-to-back errors by BCU would give the Comets set point and Kaitlin Leier notched a kill to win the first set 26-24.
 
Briar Cliff would take an early lead in the second set and would not look back as they took the second set by a score of 25-19. The third set was tied at 19 before a service error by the Chargers and three straight kills by Victoria Johnson the Comets took a 23-19 lead. Ashley Pyburn would score the final point of set three to take a 2-1 advantage.
 
Mayville State was up 11-8 in the fourth set before an ace by Amy Seim that extended the lead to four. The Comets would go on a mini 3-0 run with kills from Pyburn, Lily Pyle, and Johnson to give MSU an 18-12 lead. The Chargers would storm back late in the fourth set with a 5-1 run to cut the lead to 22-19. MSU would score the next three points and take the fourth set by a final of 25-19.
 
Mayville State would finish the game with 59 kills with 23 errors on 171 attempts for a .211 hitting percentage. The Comets would also finish with 81 digs, nine blocks, and five aces. Mason Hart tallied 34 digs in the back row with one serve reception error.
 
Victoria Johnson recorded a team-high 20 kills and five solo blocks. Rachel Hill tallied 27 assists on the night with eight digs and two service aces. Elora Passa tallied a triple-double with 16 kills, 22 assists, and 11 digs. Jordyn Lucas and Amy Seim tallied 12 and 11 digs respectively.
 
The Comets are back in action on September 25th as they continue NSAA play when they travel to Waldorf. The first serve is scheduled for 7:00 against the Warriors.
