Forest City, IA. – The Mayville State University volleyball team tallied a sweep and extend the winning streak to five. The Comets move to 8-2 on the regular season and 2-0 in conference play.
MSU started the first set fast scoring eight of the first 11 points. The Comets were up 17-12 before a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 22-12. The Warriors would climb back into the game with a 7-1 run to cut the lead to four. Back-to-back kills by Passa and Johnson would end the first set 25-19.
The second set was tied 4-4 before Mayville State went on a 5-0 to take a slim lead. MSU would take over in the second set when a Comet run of 9-3 run to take the second set 25-16. Both teams were trading points in the third set as we were tied at 15. Teams keep continuing trading points in the third set as it was tied at 18 before a 3-0 mini-run by MSU from a kill from Pyburn to give them a 21-18. The Comets would go on and win the third set and complete the sweep 25-21.
Mayville State would hit .214 on the game with 37 kills, 13 errors, two aces, 14 blocks, 35 assists, and 65 digs. Victoria Johnson led the Comet attack with nine kills and tallied eight blocks. Elora Passa tallied 14 assists and seven kills. Mason Hart led the Comet defense with 29 digs in the sweep.
Comets are back in action tomorrow morning for a nonconference game with Northwestern (MN). First serve is scheduled for 10:30 am.
