Box Score St. Paul, MN - The Mayville State University Volleyball team picked up a non-conference victory at University of Northwestern (MN) and extend the winning steak to six. The Comets move to 8-2 on the season and stay at 2-0 in NSAA play.
The Comets and Eagles traded the first six points in the opening set before UNW rattled off five straight points. After a timeout by coach Johnson, the Comets would score the next six points and take a 9-8 lead off a kill from Hadrava. Both teams would trade points as we were tied at 19 before the Eagles close out the set with a 6-2 run to end the set.
The second set was tied at five before MSU went on a 7-1 run to give the Comets a 12-6 lead. Mayville State was up 20-13 before the Eagles went on a mini 4-0 run to cut the lead back to three. The Comets would score five out of the last seven points to take game two 25-19.
The Comets and Eagles were tied at seven in the pivotal third set before UNW went on a 9-2 run to jump out to a 10-16 lead in the middle part of the third set. Mayville State would be down 16-23 would cut the Eagle lead to three at 20-23. The Eagles would have set point at 20-24 and the Comets would fight off four set points as Johnson had four kills and one block in a 6-0 run to steal the third set 26-24.
Mayville State had multiple leads of four early in the fourth set before a 5-2 run to extend the lead to six at 21-15. MSU had four set and match points but the Eagles continued to play and fought off two points to cut the lead to 24-22. Leier finished the set and match with a kill to push the Comet winning streak to six.
MSU finished the game with 51 kills, 21 attack error for a hitting percentage of .152, 43 assists, one ace, 106 digs, and 11.0 blocks.
Elora Passa almost tallied another triple-double with 11 kills, 21 assists, and eight digs in the victory.
Victoria Johnson recorded a team-high 19 kills and three blocks.
Ashley Pyburn led the Comets with five blocks, she also recorded seven kills.
Mason Hart tallied 36 digs in the back row.
Amy Seim finished with 21 digs in the victory.
Rachel Hill recorded 19 assists and
Jordyn Lucas finished with 18 digs.
