Aberdeen, S.D. – The Mayville State University Women's basketball team defeated Presentation College in the final regular-season by a final score of 76-58. The Comets finish the regular season with a 13-7 overall and 8-6 in the conference and will be the fourth seed heading into the conference tournament.
Mayville State started the game on an 8-0 run that lasted over three minutes, during the run four different Comets scored two points. The Comets held more than a five-point lead throughout the rest of the first quarter and took a 19-12 lead heading into the second quarter. A two-point basket by Zrust with 6:16 left in the second quarter gave MSU an 11-point lead. PC would cut the lead to three with 2:31 but the Comets extended the lead back to five heading into the intermission.
MSU would come out of the intermission and extended the lead to 12 with 5:01 left in the third quarter. Mayville State would get to their biggest lead of the game with 48 seconds left in the third quarter to 14 points. MSU would out-score the Saints by six in the final quarter and cruised to an 18-point victory. Mayville State finished the game shooting 49.0 percent from the field, 11.1 percent from the 3-point line, and made 25 free-throws on 29 attempts.
The Comets also finished with 16 points off turnovers, 24 bench points, and six second-chance points. Jordan Zrust finished the game with 27 points, eight rebounds, and one steal. Danneka Voegeli also scored in double figures with 11 points, four rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Kayla Rocholl tallied eight points and two steals. Taylor Reilly scored nine points and two rebounds off the bench for the Comets.
The Comets will host the first round of the NSAA Conference Tournament on Tuesday, February 23rd. The opponent still is not determined at this moment. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm from the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.
