Palos Heights, Ill. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team completed a doubleheader sweep against Trinity Christian (3-2) and Ottawa University Arizona (3-0) Saturday. The Comets move to 16-5 on the regular season as they start the second half of the conference season. The Stats for the first game are still being finalized and will post them as soon as they are completed.
Game Two:
The Comets took the momentum from the end of the first game and used it to start the first set of the second game 6-2 run, Johnson tallied three kills and Pyle tallied two kills during that run. Later that set, the Comets went on a 6-1 run. Pyburn recorded three kills during that run. The Comets won the first set by a final of 25-18.
Mayville State started the second set with a 7-1 run over the Spirit. Three kills by Johnson and two kills by Pyle during that run in the second set. Also during that set, the Comets went on a 6-3 run late in the set to help secure the 25-21 second set victory.
Early in the third set, MSU went on a 5-1 run that helped extend the Comets lead. Pyburn tallied two kills during that mini-run from the Comets. Later in the third set, the Comets went on another 7-3 run to help them secure the sweep over Ottawa University 25-17. The Comets finished the game with 35 kills on 107 attempts and 10 hitting errors for a hitting percentage of .234.
The Comets also finished with four aces, three blocks, 32 assists, and 75 digs as a team. Victoria Johnson led the Comets with 13 kills in the second game with two assist blocks and one solo block. Lily Pyle was second in kills in the second game with nine kills, one blocking assist, and one dig. Ashley Pyburn tallied eight kills and hit .429 on the afternoon. Elora Passa finished with 15 assists and Rachel Hill finished with nine assists. In the back row, Jordyn Lucas and Mason Hart each tallied 19 digs.
The Comets are off this week and will return to action on March 5th and 6th as they travel to Bellevue University and Dakota State for two NSAA Matchups. The first serve on Friday against Bellevue is scheduled for 6 PM and Saturday at 12 for Junior varsity and 2 PM varsity against Dakota State.
