Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University Men's Basketball team cruised to a quarterfinal victory over the Presentation College Saints Tuesday by a final of 94-45. The Comets move to 14-4 on the regular season.
Mayville State was up 6-4 early in the first half before a run of 14-3 run that lasted over five minutes of the half to give them a double-digit lead. With the Comets up 11 with 6:15 left in the first half, MSU finished the half on an 18-2 run and take a 27-point lead heading into the intermission. Mayville State allowed a season-low 18 points in the first half.
The Comets were up thirty in the second half with 16:07 left in the second half Mayville State went on a 17-2 run to get to their biggest lead of the night at forty-five points. Mayville State would cruise to a forty-nine point victory over the Saints. The Comets finished the game shooting 54.8 percent from the field, 52.8 percent from the 3-point line, and made seven-of-eight free throws. The Comets also finished with 47 bench points, 16 points off turnovers, and seven second-chance points.
Five Comets finished in double figures in tonight's game led by Keiron Goodwin recording 17 points, five rebounds, and two assists. John Ketchel recorded 11 points, three rebounds, six assists, and one steal. Iker Cruz tallied a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Thomas Gieske led the bench with 14 points, two rebounds, and one steal. Najee Brown-Henderson scored 12 points, one rebound, two assists, and one steal off the bench.
The Comets are back in action at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse on Thursday as they host the #5 seed Dakota State. Tip-off against the Trojans is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
