Women's Basketball drops Semifinal game to #14 Trojans

Madison, S.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team dropped the semifinal game to #14 Dakota State Trojans by a final score of 55-72. The Comets finish the season at 14-8.
 
It was a tightly contested though the first five minutes of the game as the Comets were trailing by one-point. The Comets went on a 6-0 run to hold a five-point lead with 2:30 left in the quarter. The Trojans finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead heading into the second quarter. The Trojans started the second quarter on an 8-0 run to jump out to a nine-point lead.
 
After the Comets scored four points on back-to-back possessions to cut the lead to five before another large run in the second quarter of 9-2 to extend the lead to 12. The Trojans took an eight-point lead heading into the intermission. The Comets were trailing by 16 with 4:56 left in the third quarter when MSU went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to single digits with less then four minutes in the quarter.
 
DSU would finish another quarter with an 8-0 run and take a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Comets could not overcome the large deficit in the fourth quarter and drop the game 72-55. The Comets finished the game shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from the 3-point line, and 13-of-15 from the free-throw line. MSU also finished with 24 points in the paint, 13 bench points, and 10 points off turnovers.
 
Jordan Zrust and Danneka Voegeli each scored 12 points and eight rebounds, Zrust also finished with one block, and two steals. Erin Walcker tallied nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and one block. CJ Decker tallied six points, five rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Heather Elfering recorded six points and three rebounds off the bench. Stephanie Miller tallied five points and one rebound in the loss.
