Valley City, N.D. – The Mayville State University Volleyball team swept the Valley City State Vikings 3-0 on Wednesday. The Comets move to 19-7 on the regular season and 7-3 in conference play.
The Comets started the first game fast as MSU scored seven of the first eight points. The Vikings would go on a 5-1 run to cut the Comet lead back to three. With the Comets up 10-9, MSU would go on a 9-0 run to jump out to a 10-point lead. During that run, four Comets had kills. Mayville State would win the first set 25-12.
The second set went back-and-forth as the Vikings and Comets were tied at eight, when the Comets took a two-point advantage at 13-11. The Vikings tied the game at 19 before the Comets finished the second set on a 6-2 and go up 2-0. Mayville State started the third set fast as the Comets started the set on a 5-2 run.
Valley City State was down 10-4 in the third set before the Vikings went on a 4-0 run to cut the Mayville State lead to two. The Comets were up four points in the third set before MSU went on a 7-2 run to get a nine-point lead late in the third set. The Comets would complete the sweep in the third set by a final score of 25-16.
Mayville State finished the game with 38 kills on 15 errors and 124 attack attempts for a hitting percentage of .185. The Comets also finished with 84 digs, 33 assists, five blocks, and one ace. Victoria Johnson finished the game with 13 kills, a .333, and three block assists. Lily Pyle also finished with double figures in kills with 10 kills and four blocking assists.
Elora Passa finished with seven kills, 20 assists, one block assists, and 14 digs. Mason Hart tallied 26 digs in the back row for the Comets. Amy Seim tallied 21 digs for the Comets in the win. Rachel Hill tallied three kills, seven assists, and seven digs.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow evening at 7:00 PM at Dickinson State University.
