Dickinson, N.D. - The Mayville State University Volleyball team swept Dickinson State by a final score of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-23 Thursday night. The Comets move to 19-9 overall and 8-3 in conference play.
The first set was close through the first part of the first set as the Comets and Blue Hawks were tied at 11. The Comets would take a two-point lead and then the Blue Hawks would tie it at 15. The Comets would go on a 10-3 run to take the first set. The second set started the same way as the first as neither team had more than a three-point lead. The second set was back-and-forth to the 20-point mark as the game was tied when the Comets finished the second set on a 5-2 run and take the second set by a final score of 25-22.
The theme of the night was tightly contested throughout the majority of the third set as the Comets held multiple leads of three points but the Blue Hawks continued to fight as they tied it up at 15 before the Comets started to pull away. The Comets held a 3-point lead at 20-17 when they traded the next eight points with DSU to get to match point. The Blue Hawks would fight off two match points before the Comets would close out the third set 25-23.
Mayville State finished the game with 42 kills on 14 attacking errors and a .215 hitting percentage. The Comets also finished with 56 digs, 30 assists, and five blocks. Victoria Johnson finished the game with 14 kills and two solo blocks. Elora Passa finished with double figures with 13 kills, 15 assists, and one solo block. Mason Hart finished with 25 digs in the back row for the Comets.
