Comet Baseball drops non-conference game against Vikings Tuesday

Mayville, N.D. – The Comets drop a non-conference game at Valley City State on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 2-9. The Comets move to 11-6 on the regular season.

Valley City State started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs on four hits, and one Mayville State error. The Comets created a chance in the third inning when the Vikings tallied back-to-back errors with one out and a line out by McCorrister ended the inning. Mayville State tallied two runs in the top of the fourth inning on three hits.

The Vikings extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on two runs on two hits and one Comet error. The Comets had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, but the next batter struck out to end the threat. Valley City scored runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth inning to give the Vikings the 9-2 victory over the Comets.

Michael Theisen led the Comets with two hits, one run scored, one run batted in, and one double. Anthony Villanueva tallied one hit and one run batted in. Adam Senden and Gunner Garpestad each tallied one hit. It was a bullpen day for the Comets as nine pitchers threw for the Comets over the nine innings. Parker Stohr struck out three batters in 1.0 innings of work, Jesse O'Connell allowed three runs, three hits, and one strikeout.

Matthew Johnston pitched 1.1 innings for the Comets allowing one hit, one earned run, and struck out three batters. Josh Rodriguez also pitched 1.1 innings allowing two hits and striking out one batter. Preston Edinger got both batters he was asked to face striking out one of the batters. Alex DeCaro only could record one out allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout.

Trevor Schreiner recorded 0.2 innings pitched allowing one hit, one run, and two walks. Connor Cory pitched one inning striking out all three hitters he faced. Kenneth Stewart tallied one inning out of the bullpen allowing two hits, one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout.

The Comets open conference play Friday and Saturday as they travel to Bellevue to face the Bruins. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Friday and 12:00 PM on Saturday.
