Comet Baseball drops a one-run game to the Broncos on Sunday

Hastings, Neb. – The Mayville State University baseball team dropped a non-conference game against Hastings College by a final score of 6-5. The Comets drop to 6-3 on the regular season.

Mayville State started the scoring in the fourth inning pushing five runs across on three hits. The bases were loaded with two outs in the inning before a Senden double to left field that cleared the bases and gave the Comets a 3-0. The next batter Wood doubled to left-center to score the fourth run of the inning. Garpestad singled down the right-field line to bring in the fifth run of the inning for the Comets.

Hastings College would answer the five runs in the top of the fourth inning with five of their own on five hits and one MSU error. The Comets had multiple innings with a leadoff baserunner but could not capitalize as Hastings scored one run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the final game of the 3-game series.

The Comets finished the game with five runs, seven hits, and had two errors on the defensive side. Payton DeLuca was one of two Comets with two hits on the day, DeLuca also scored one run and drew one walk. Gunner Garpestad was the other Comet with two hits, he also had one run batted in and one walk. Adam Senden finished with one hit, one run scored, and three runs batted in. Brantt Wood tallied one hit, one run batted in, and one run scored.

Parker Stohr started on the mound for the Comets allowing seven hits, four earned runs, one walk, and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched. Trevor Schreiner pitched 2.0 innings in relief allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and one strikeout. Preston Edinger tallied the loss pitching 2.1 innings allowing one hit, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts.

The Comets are back in action next weekend as they play Morningside College on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch on Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for 12:00 PM from Omaha, Neb.
