Williamsburg, Ky. – The Mayville State University Comets end their season on Tuesday after a 2-1 loss to Reinhardt University. The Comets finish the season at 35-18 and will graduate 10 seniors.

The Comets took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run from Michael Theisen over the centerfield fence in the second inning. The Eagles would threaten in the bottom of the inning, putting a runner on third base with two outs, but DiNaro got the next batter to fly out to left field to end the inning. Satrom led off the third inning with a single but only advanced to second base Wohl and Hughes were retired with a runner in scoring position.

Between the third, fourth, and fifth innings, DiNaro retired nine of ten batters that he faced. Mayville State had the leadoff batter on in the top of the fifth inning but it was erased by a 6-4-3 double play and the Comets went down in order. In the seventh inning, Theisen doubled to left field with one out. The next batter May hit a drive deep to left-center field but the centerfielder caught the ball on the warning track to record the second out of the inning and the Comets would leave a runner in scoring position.

In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles loaded the bases with two walks and a single when Kenneth Stewart entered the game out of the bullpen and got Romig to strike out looking on a 3-2 pitch to hold a 1-0 lead. A one-out single and stolen base from Satrom put him in scoring position with one out and Villanueva grounded out to the second baseman and Wohl grounded out to third to leave another runner in scoring position.

Reinhart took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning off a hit by pitch, followed by an error by the Comets to put runners on the corner with zero outs. MSU cut down a run at the plate on a groundball to the third baseman Forst to prevent a bigger deficit for the Comets.

Stewart struck out the next batter looking and got the final hitter to fly out to the right field to leave the deficit at one heading into the ninth inning. McCorrister singled to right-center with one out in the inning, the next batter, Theisen hit a ground ball to the pitcher's mound, and the pitcher threw errantly to the shortstop to put runners on first and second with one out.
