Rapid City, S.D. – The Mayville State University Football team dropped the final non-conference game to NCAA Division II South Dakota School of Mines Saturday evening 52-7. The Comets drop to 0-3 on the regular season heading into conference play.
The Hardrockers started the game fast scoring on their first possession of the game in three minutes to jump out to an early touchdown lead. On the second play of the Comets first drive resulted in a fumble that was picked up by SDSMT at the MSU eight-yard line. The next play resulted in a touchdown and the Comets were down 14 in the first five minutes of the game.
On the next Mayville State possession, the Comets turned the ball over which resulted in another Hardrocker touchdown to put the Comets down three scores. Mayville State was outscored 45-0 in the first half. The Comets put their first points on the board early in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass from
Gavin Goulette to

Mayville State finished the game with two first downs, 13 yards rushing, and 65 yards passing. Defensively, MSU allowed 15 first downs, 431 yards of offense, and forced four fumbles. Gavin Goulett completed four passes on 13 attempts for 65 yards and one touchdown.
Mason Ollman recorded 18 carries for 35 yards.
Cole Dukart and
Jason Nelson rushed the ball eight times for a combined 25 yards.
Donte McJoy led the receivers with one catch for 34 yards and one touchdown.
Reece Smith tallied one catch for 27 yards.
Austin Urlaub recorded one catch for three yards.
Travyen Brownlee and
Josiah Walker each recorded six tackles in the loss, they also had 0.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 tackles for loss respectively.
Danzele Navy and
Justice Sosnicki each tallied five tackles in the game.
